Empowering Change Through Community and Data

JUSTICE FUNDING DATABASE

WelcOME TO THE JUSTICE FUNDING DATABASE PROJECT

Why It Matters

There are human costs to funding our justice system through fines, fees, and other sanctions. Not only can people become trapped under cyclical forms of debt, but access to housing and financial stability are often a consequence. These funding mechanisms block families and communities from creating generational wealth and prosperity.

Our project champions justice innovation that centers community prosperity. Our tool aims to provide a solid empirical foundation for advocating for shifts in justice funding infrastructure.

The Justice Funding Database Project is in the preliminary phase of developing a tool to transform the infrastructure around justice funding through data-driven insights. We are aggregating, tracking, and analyzing legal statutes across all 50 states (and Washington, DC), providing an invaluable resource for lawmakers, researchers, and the public. We're building a foundation for more informed decision-making and a more equitable legal funding structure.
